At just 23-years of age, Vanderbilt can certainly play a role for a good time, like he did in 2021/22 for Minnesota, but his future in Utah all depends on either what the team can get for him in a trade, or if he’ll be an effective piece for them once the rebuild is nearing completion. Jarred Vanderbilt has been in the NBA for four seasons, and it was his fourth year, playing with the Timberwolves that saw him set career highs across the board, and even if he doesn’t project as a future star or even a starter, he could be quite a valuable piece to this Jazz team in the future. Will Jarred Vanderbilt be in Utah for 2022/23? Mandatory Credit: David Berding-USA TODAY Sports 7. So which other players on the current Utah Jazz roster will be there when the season tips off in 2022/23, and which ones will be bought out or traded before that point in time?Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Washington Wizards guard Tomas Satoransky (31) dribbles the ball while Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jarred Vanderbilt (8) defends in the first quarter at Target Center. Not everyone on this team is going to be a Mitchell or Gobert and fetch a haul of picks, but we saw with the Brooklyn Nets trade for Royce O’Neale, that other players on this team carry value, and it’s now that the Jazz should be looking to capitalize. The Jazz still need to field a complete roster in 2022/23, but given all of the exits and the clear strategy to stockpile as many draft picks as possible, there’s a very, very good chance that a Donovan Mitchell trade isn’t the last one we see from the Utah Jazz this off-season. Like I said, this list will be fluid and we’ll update it as trades happen, which they surely will.In just a few weeks, the Utah Jazz have gone from a strong playoff team, to one that could be re-tooling around All-Star Donovan Mitchell, to one that is now likely to go into a complete rebuild in the coming weeks, and could potentially be armed with a haul of 10+ first-round picks, not including their own. Jared Butler (guaranteed with possible qualifying offer in 2023-24).Simone Fontecchio ( guaranteed with possible qualifying offer in 2024-25).Udoka Azubuike (guaranteed with team option in 2023-24 and qualifying offer in 2024-25).Leandro Bolmaro (guaranteed this season with team option in 2023-25.Walker Kessler (rookie contract with extension eligibility after 2024-25 season).Nickeil Alexander-Walker (rookie extension eligible, guaranteed this season with a possible qualifying offer for 2023-24).Rudy Gay (guaranteed this season with player option in 2023-24).Jordan Clarkson (guaranteed this season with player option in 2023-24).Malik Beasley (guaranteed this season with team option in 2023-24).Utah received 5 players in the deal for Rudy Gobert and, as of right now, they’ll all be at training camp. The other interesting thing with this Jazz roster is how many different players we’ll be seeing. It’s very possible we see Donovan Mitchell in a black and yellow Jazz jersey next season. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned in Danny Ainge’s short time in Utah, he’s got the patience necessary to make the trade happen that he wants. With all the rumored Donovan Mitchell trade talk happening, it feels more like we’re waiting to see when the trade happens rather than if. You can bet that there will be more moves and as those moves happen, we’ll update this for future reference.Īs it stands, Donovan Mitchell is still on this roster and, if training camp started today, he would be there. The Utah Jazz roster is in complete flux after the Rudy Gobert trade that sent shockwaves throughout the NBA. This also reflects the changes from the Jazz sending the Los Angeles Lakers Patrick Beverley for Talen Horton-Tucker and Stanley Johnson. On top of the three unprotected first round picks, the Jazz received Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, and #14 overall pick, Ochai Agbaji. With the Donovan Mitchell trade now behind us, it’s time to take a look at the roster and update it with all the new players on the Jazz roster. Tuesday September 27 - Tony Jones September 16, 2022
